North Morowali – PT Halmahera International Resources (HIR) has donated 25 tons of silica sand to support the operation of the Drinking Water Supply System (SPAM) in Kolonodale, North Morowali.

The assistance was symbolically handed over by PT HIR's Public Relations Officer, Budiono, to Fahrudin Lalu, Head of the Human Settlements Division of the Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency (PUPR), accompanied by Petasia District Head Novrianto Najamudin, on Tuesday, May 6, 2025.

PT HIR President Director Ilham Erlangga stated that the donation reflects not only the company's commitment to corporate social responsibility but also its genuine concern for the community's need for clean water supplied through the Kolonodale Drinking Water Supply System (SPAM).

"We are grateful for the opportunity to contribute what we can for the benefit of the community, especially the residents of Kolonodale," Ilham said in a written statement on Thursday, May 8.

Ilham emphasized that access to clean water is a fundamental right for every individual. Therefore, the company remains committed to supporting the local government's efforts to improve the quality of life by helping provide adequate public infrastructure.

He added that the donation is also part of the company's vision to actively contribute to sustainable development. By improving access to clean water, the initiative is expected to enhance public health and well-being while creating a healthier and more sustainable environment.

"We hope this small contribution will make a meaningful difference for the people of Kolonodale. It is not only about meeting immediate needs but also about building a stronger relationship between the company and the community," Ilham concluded.

Representing the local government, Fahrudin Lalu expressed his appreciation to PT HIR for its contribution in supporting the operation of the Kolonodale Drinking Water Supply System (SPAM).

According to Fahrudin, PT HIR has provided significant assistance, particularly through manpower and material support, which has greatly contributed to ensuring the smooth distribution of clean water to residents.

"PT HIR has been very helpful. They carried out the intake cleaning, the cleaning of the Water Treatment Plant (IPA) tanks, and the transportation of silica sand for the filtration tanks," he said in an interview with Radar Sulteng on Thursday, May 8.

Previously, 53 personnel from PT HIR were directly involved in carrying out these activities. This support was crucial amid the limited number of personnel managing the Kolonodale Drinking Water Supply System (SPAM).

Fahrudin further explained that the authority is currently implementing a rotational water distribution system due to the limited capacity of the reservoir, which can only store 200 cubic meters of water. Meanwhile, the number of household connections (SR) has reached nearly 3,000 customers.

To address this limitation, the North Morowali Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency (PUPR) has allocated approximately IDR 5.3 billion this year to construct an additional reservoir with a capacity of 350 cubic meters.

"In the future, with two reservoirs in operation, it is expected that there will no longer be a need for a rotational water distribution system," Fahrudin explained.

In addition, PT HIR together with PT SSP has also assisted in constructing a retaining embankment to prevent mud from entering the intake area during the rainy season.

Fahrudin confirmed that operational personnel are now also on standby at the site, especially during the rainy season, to ensure the continuous operation of the clean water supply system. (ham)
